Shelf maintenance is an important part of keeping the kiln running well, especially when glaze drips or runs during a firing. Traditional shelves are usually ruined when that happens, but our studio uses ADVANCER shelves, which are far more durable and can be cleaned instead of replaced. If a glaze run occurs, we charge a $15 cleaning fee to cover the time and materials needed to safely remove the residue and restore the shelf. For Cone 6 glaze firing, we keep the pricing just as simple. The cost is a flat $25 for each firing plus $1 per piece that goes into the kiln. Cone 6 brings the clay to full maturity and melts the glaze into its finished surface, so it’s the stage where both heatwork and careful loading really matter. Cone 10 glaze firing reaches one of the highest temperatures used in studio ceramics, creating strong, fully matured clay bodies and rich, dynamic glaze surfaces. At this heat, glazes often develop deeper color variation, movement, and character, making Cone 10 a favorite for potters who enjoy more traditional or atmospheric results. Because the kiln works hard at this temperature, careful loading and proper glaze application are especially important. If you’d like help choosing glazes or understanding how your clay will respond at Cone 10, we’re always happy to walk through it with you. The pricing is similar to the other firings with a $40 Flat fee and $1 a piece.

Cone 019 overglaze firing is a gentle, low-temperature cycle used to mature lusters, decals, enamels, and other decorative finishes after the main glaze firing. Because overglaze materials melt and bond at much lower heat, this firing protects the underlying glaze while giving the surface its final shine or design. It’s a quick, delicate step that adds character and detail to finished pieces. If you’re working with new overglaze materials or want to be sure your piece is suitable for this temperature, we’re always happy to take a look and help guide you. I try to keep pricing simple - $20 for the Kiln load and $1 per piece.
